Unemployment and the job hunt - Why a solo sport?

I have often wondered why the job hunt is structured as a solo sport.   You develop your resume.  You search for a job.  You interview against all other candidates.  And the job is awarded to one individual.  It is a solo sport.

Could there not be a different model that makes it entrepreneurial, potentially location based (but not mandatory) and a team sport.   Think if unemployed people in a certain geographic area came together and took time to identify the groups talents and skills.  People then could be pooled together to look at what options might be available as a team which will be more than likely entrepreneurial in nature.  What if 50 people came together.  All skills and interests were inventoried.  People separated themselves into groups of five.  At that point they work to identify a product or service they could provide as a group.  When each team has their product or service identified they come back together and perhaps do some trading.  Example - for our group we have someone in finance, operations and operations, and we really need a marketing person.  So you potentially trade - one operations for a marketing person.  Granted individuals need to want to go with the trade but that is a given - nobody's self determination is taken away.   At the end of the day, could you have potentially 5 - 10 new companies ready to go?!   And the creation of 50 new jobs!   Of course, capital and a bunch of others items need to be addressed but they do anyways wherever people would land.

We don't have to completely change the jobs paradigm and its solo (and frustrating for most) methodology.  But I think a team model could be just as valid and perhaps quicker and better.  No guarantee of success but worth a try.

And by the way,  who would these new companies market too?  Well potentially there are nine other companies in the room that may need their services. They become an economy by first starting to trade with one another.   I would like to facilitate a process like this to see what could happen.  If you want to get 10 - 20 people together,  I am happy to facilitate a process to see what we could create. Send me an e-mail.
